Digital Performer 10

The industry standard film scoring DAW. With unique features such as Chunks, VRacks, Clippings, MIDI Device Groups, pure MIDI Tracks, and the MAS plug-in format,
no other DAW is so feature rich for the film composer.

Make it stand out.

Digital Performer has a reputation as the DAW for film scoring, and large touring act production. And for good reason. Technologies such as:

  1. Chunks: Multiple sequences within one project),

  2. VRacks: Containers that allow VIs to maintain active outputs when switching between sequences, allow offline bouncing with Vienna Ensemble Pro across  sequences, allow effects to be accessed from multiple sequences, and more!

  3. MIDI Tracks: These are proper MIDI Tracks that don’t have instruments attached to them. Users of other DAWs tend to misunderstand the purpose of these tracks. But they allow other technologies such as...

  4. MIDI Device Groups: Up to 16 MIDI output assignments from one MIDI Track. The advantages here should be obvious.

  5. MAS Plug-in support: Along with VST3, MAS is nativity supported by Vienna Ensemble Pro, and supports up to 768 MIDI Channels per instance!

  6. Clippings: Clippings are, along with Chunks, the killer feature that gives Digital Performer a huge advantage in workflow over other DAWs. (see my YouTube video Digital Performer Features - Clippings). Drag and drop entire MIDI Tracks, Aux returns, VIs (including the Vienna Ensemble Pro MAS plug-in which initiates a complete loading of of all tracks, connections and the Vienna Ensemble Pro project file itself.) Or, load single tracks, ensembles, sections or whatever, with each remembering their assignments. And that’s not all. Clippings can handle virtually any file format. One has to see Clippings in action to grasp its implications and genius!

*Digital Performer also supports Composer Tools Pro, MetaGrid, TouchOSC and numerous other iOS controllers, and more.

Note: As much as I champion Digital Performer, I’m fully aware that no one DAW does it all. Cubase and Logic X are truly excellent DAWs, and I enjoy using them too. Other DAWs such as Studio One, Pro Tools, Reaper, and others are excellent as well. But for film scoring Digital Performer, Cubase and Logic X are the big three, and for that reason support may stop there. (See Notation apps I support for information about notation apps that can be integrated into the Modular Template or be the host of a modular template.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
